The CMO has the following primary areas of responsibility:
    • Serves as a member of the Executive Steering Council (ESC). In that role, this position functions as a senior decision-maker for BVHS, often involving issues outside their areas of expertise.
    • Ensures that reporting departments, including Quality & Patient Safety, the Medical Staff Office, and Care Transitions, work collaboratively across the health system to implement strategic objectives and best practices.
    • Builds a physician-driven strategy that promotes engagement and positive relationships with physicians and medical staff. Assists the president of the medical staff in committee meetings and various medical staff functions in accordance with medical staff by-laws. Actively collaborates with medical staff through Hancock Medical Group (HMG) to further refine and ensure the success of our co-management structure.
    • Actively engaged in community activities, participating on local boards and in charitable organizations involved in community improvement and community health.
  • The successful candidate must possess extensive clinical expertise as a physician, proven leadership experience and exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve disagreement and conflicts productively.
    - Minimum of ten years of experience actively practicing medicine in a clinical setting.
    - Minimum of five years of physician leadership experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
    - Licensed, or eligible for licensure, in the State of Ohio.
    - Strong executive presence and energy, with an obvious passion for not-for-profit healthcare. Derives personal satisfaction from contributing to an organization’s success and service excellence.
    - Skilled leader of transformation, with a record of managing quality improvement processes and executing initiatives. A forward-thinking, action-oriented individual with an ability to assess the organization’s readiness for change and set an appropriate pace. Takes a proactive approach to driving change and overall improvement.
    - Experience with credentialing, contracting, and managing successful physician compensation strategies.
    - In-depth knowledge and experience with scorecard/measurement systems, and in any or all reporting departments. Enjoys the process of learning, proactively seeks new information, and comprehends new ideas and concepts quickly.
    - Engaging, service- and team-oriented leader with superb interpersonal, communication, listening and facilitation skills. A collegial consensus builder who encourages input/ideas and demonstrates a fair and consistent approach to interacting with people and situations.
    - Open and accessible personal style; is calm and thoughtful, and values honesty, respect and transparency. A person of the highest integrity. Empowers others, maintains a sense of humility, and enjoys giving credit to others.
    - Proven creative problem-solving skills with the willingness to take the initiative in leading others. History of a proactive approach to solving problems, with a willingness to confront and raise issues before they become problems.
    - An appropriate risk taker who is action/results-oriented. Confident and able to make tough choices to serve the best interests of the organization, and then communicate direction effectively to all constituents. Comfortable moving an initiative forward while at times not having “100 percent” of the information. Will leverage the ESC to help come to the best possible decision and then move an initiative forward at moments when information may be lacking.
    - Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible and creative. Shows a willingness to ‘roll up their sleeves’ and get involved with frontline physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in the details of clinical operations when necessary.
