Job Summary

Job Summary: The Medical Director is responsible for monitoring and improving the level of care provided and help reduce operating costs of a healthcare facility over time. The selected candidate offers opportunity for teaching and mentoring and ensure the facility's compliance with the rules and regulations of government and accrediting bodies with potential innovative pilot projects. The Medical Director is also responsible for participant care, clinical outcomes, and the implementation and oversight of the quality assessment and performance improvement program. Additionally, a successful Director will work closely with the executive management team to implement strategies that enhance patient care and improve the medical practice.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates with the facility leadership, staff, and other practitioners and consultants to help develop, implement and evaluate resident care policies and procedures that reflect current standards of practice;
  • Assess the current resident population and identify current programmatic and educational needs.
  • Develop new clinical programs as the resident population change.
  • Facility identify, evaluate, and address/resolve medical and clinical concerns and issues which may affect resident care, medical care or quality of life.
  • Implementing resident medical care policies.
  • Coordinating physician services and medical care in the facility.
  • Coordinating the review, prior to granting or renewing professional privileges or association, of any physician, dentist or podiatrist;
  • Assuring that each resident's responsible physician attends to the resident's medical needs.
  • Collaborating with the health care team including the pharmacist, dentist and other clinical consultants.
  • The medical director sustains his or her professional development through self-directed and continuing education.
  • Assist the facility educate and train its staff in areas that are relevant to providing high quality patient care.
  • Serves as a resource regarding geriatric medicine and other care[1]related topics, and helps the staff and practitioner identify and access relevant educational resources (e.g., books, periodicals and articles).
  • Informs attending physicians about policies and procedures and state and federal regulations, including updates.
  • Advise Essen Health Care operating staff and participates when necessary in the development of contact relationships with other health care delivery systems.
  • Participate in ongoing clinician in-service training
  • Assure quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standard, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations.
  • Serves as a resource regarding geriatric medicine and other care[1]related topics, and helps the staff and practitioner identify and access relevant educational resources (e.g., books, periodicals and articles)
  • Participate in various administrative, clinical staff meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to participants, medical staff and employees
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors
  • Oversee the activities of group physicians, including the recruiting and credentialing processes
  • Develop policies and procedures

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified
  • Formally recognized qualification in geriatric medicine.
  • Board-certified with demonstrable experience as a geriatric physician.
  • Certification Medical Director in Long Term Care (AMDA CMD) strongly preferred
  • Local/state regulations and certifications, Continuing Medical Education (CME
  • Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations requirements must be met.
  • Experience Managing in Long-Term Care settings
  • 10+ years' experience in clinical medicine
  • 5+ years' experience in a hospital administration role
  • Superb judgment, problem-solving and cognitive skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Current knowledge of chronic care/geriatric issues and best practices
  • Superior leadership skills
