Medical Director of Psychiatry

Asante Health System has a tradition of recruiting preeminent medical professionals and is currently seeking a Medical Director to lead their Behavioral Health Services. The Medical Director of Psychiatry will provide clinical and administrative leadership to a team of psychiatrists and advanced practice clinicians, as well as a robust support staff including social workers, clinical nurse specialists and other team members.

The Medical Director will also be the first holder of a Medical Chair established by donors through Asante Foundation. This prestigious Medical Chair will provide funds for the use at the discretion of the Chairholder that can be directed for people, technology, facilities and programs that support patient care and research activities.

Asante’s Behavioral Health Center is the only hospital-based inpatient provider of care between Portland and the Bay Area. In an era when many regional hospital systems are shutting down behavioral health facilities, Asante in collaboration with philanthropic donors, has invested nearly $10 million to provide this vital service to our communities. The newly designed and renovated Behavioral Health Unit has 24 beds and supportive spaces including a new outdoor area for patients to enjoy during their treatment. This is an important mission-based service for Asante and is strongly supported by the communities we serve.

The Medical Director shall provide leadership to achieve the Mission, Vision, Values, Goals and Objectives for the program. The Medical Director will be responsible for all aspects of the Service Line across all divisions, including growth, quality, and service education. The role is designed to be 50% clinical service and 50% leadership.

The successful candidate will be an experienced physician leader who has demonstrated success in a complex care environment. S/he will lead Asante’s efforts to design, build, implement, and collaborate with community partners, hospital services and departments towards achieving a high quality, effective, compassionate regional behavioral health service that provides a scope of services consistent with community needs. Qualifications include:

  • Strong clinical leader with experience in leading psychiatry service line
  • Track record of driving improvements in quality and safety, with progressive leadership experience
  • Provision of full range of psychiatric services to assigned patients
  • Licensed as a psychiatrist in the state of Oregon or able to obtain licensure
  • Board certified and must maintain certification
  • Must possess good interpersonal communication and leadership skills
  • Must complete a satisfactory background investigation
