Medical Director - Family & Internal Medicine (MD/DO) - Phoenix, AZ
Location: Phoenix, AZ (85012)
Schedule: 4 days administrative, 1 day clinical (up to 25 patients)
Shift: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced Medical Director (Family Medicine/Internal Medicine) to support our Central Services Office in Phoenix. This physician leader will partner closely with the Chief Clinical Officer to oversee clinical quality, provider performance, and operational excellence across health centers, while maintaining a limited clinical practice.
This role is ideal for a mission-driven leader with strong FQHC/community health experience and a passion for mentoring providers and improving care delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clinical leadership and oversight for Family Medicine & Internal Medicine providers
Serve as primary liaison between providers and organisational leadership
Conduct site visits and lead provider meetings
Supervise, mentor, audit, and evaluate providers
Support recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new medical staff
Assist in developing and enforcing clinical policies, procedures, and standing orders
Implement and support Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and Care Delivery Integration (CDI) models
Monitor regulatory compliance and quality standards
Collaborate on access, productivity, and performance improvement strategies
Participate in leadership meetings, budgeting input, and strategic initiatives
Address escalated patient and staff clinical concerns in partnership with People Services
Maintain limited active clinical practice as required
Qualifications:
Required:
MD or DO (Family Medicine or Internal Medicine)
Completion of an accredited U.S. residency program
Active medical license in good standing (AZ or ability to obtain prior to start)
Valid unrestricted DEA license
Board certified or board eligible
Minimum 3 years clinical experience in a healthcare system
Minimum 2 years leadership/management experience (strong preference for FQHC/community health)
Current BLS/AED certification
Valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
Valid AZ driver's license
Preferred:
Master's degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or related field
Bilingual Spanish/English
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Combination of office, clinic, and travel between sites
Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 25 lbs (50 lbs with assistance), and manage clinical work demands
Exposure to standard clinical environments and travel-related conditions
