Job description Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Location: Los Angeles, California Department: Graduate Medical Education – Internal Medicine Reports To: Designated Institutional Official (DIO) REQUIRED – Executive Screening Checklist Education & Board Certification
  • MD or DO – REQUIRED
  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM or AOBIM) – REQUIRED
Licensure
  • Unrestricted California Medical License – REQUIRED
Experience
  • Minimum 3 Years Educational and/or Administrative Experience in an ACGME-Accredited Residency Program – REQUIRED
  • Prior Leadership Experience – REQUIRED
  • Current Faculty Appointment or Eligible for Appointment – REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Associate Program Director or GME Leadership Experience
  • Curriculum Development Experience
  • Quality Improvement Experience
  • Faculty Development Experience
  • Active involvement in regional or national academic organizations
Position Overview The Program Director provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program, ensuring compliance with ACGME Common and Specialty-Specific Program Requirements. Clinical FTE must not exceed 50% to ensure adequate administrative oversight. Core Responsibilities Program Administration & Accreditation
  • Direct day-to-day program operations
  • Ensure ACGME compliance (ADS oversight, citations, updates)
  • Lead accreditation site visit preparation
  • Maintain Program Letters of Agreement (PLAs)
Educational Oversight
  • Design and implement ACGME-compliant curriculum
  • Oversee didactics, simulation, and clinical learning
  • Integrate Milestones into evaluations
  • Supervise Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC)
Faculty Leadership
  • Recruit and evaluate core faculty
  • Drive faculty development (teaching, research, leadership)
  • Promote scholarly engagement
Resident Oversight
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding
  • Provide mentorship and supervision
  • Monitor resident performance and well-being
  • Ensure duty hour compliance
Institutional Engagement
  • Collaborate with DIO and GMEC
  • Participate in institutional reviews
  • Prepare Annual Program Evaluations
Scholarly Activity
  • Maintain active scholarly engagement (publications, presentations, QI)
  • Mentor resident and faculty scholarship
