Job description
The Chief of Medicine will play an integral role in the management, growth, and future direction of the Medicine Service at our growing 1A VAMC facility. The Medicine service at the Ralph H. Johnson VA includes Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Hospital Medicine, Nephrology, Pulmonology, and Rheumatology. The Chief collaborates with other Service Chiefs and program managers in fulfilling their responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
2. Provides leadership and accountability for all aspects of the service, assuring support of the mission and values of this health care system and VISN
3. Assumes responsibility for carrying out the goals, objectives, and plans and policies established by the Health Care System Director.
4. Ensures the service functions as an integrated care delivery system, providing a full continuum of patient-focused Medicine Services for Veterans.
5. Utilizes data about providers and available resources to formulate strategic short-term and long-range plans and goals for the service and to address deficiencies.
6. Plans, implements, and manages the Performance Improvement/QM programs within the medicine department.
7. Formulates and implements general policies, procedures, standards, and goals and objectives for the Medicine Service that are consistent with, and supportive of, the mission of the health care system and VISN 7.
Qualifications
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
