A hyperbaric physician, also known as a hyperbaric medicine physician or a diving medicine specialist, is a medical doctor who specializes in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and the treatment of conditions related to increased atmospheric pressure, such as diving-related injuries, carbon monoxide poisoning, and non-healing wounds.

Job Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients requiring hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for various medical conditions, including but not limited to, decompression sickness, arterial gas embolism, chronic non-healing wounds, and radiation injuries.

• Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' medical history, symptoms, and diagnostic tests to determine the appropriate course of hyperbaric treatment.

• Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans for patients undergoing hyperbaric therapy, considering factors such as the severity of the condition, patient health status, and response to previous treatments.

• HBOT Administration: Oversee the administration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions, ensuring patient safety and adherence to treatment protocols.

• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including nurses, wound care specialists, and technicians, to coordinate patient care and optimize treatment outcomes.

Qualifications

•Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.

• Board certification in a relevant specialty as Hyperbaric Medicine.

• Previous experience in hyperbaric medicine, wound care, critical care, or diving medicine is preferred.
