Job description
We are seeking a Hospitalist for a locum tenens position in Clovis, California. This assignment is based at an acute care hospital with a large hospitalist program, strong specialty support, and a patient population that places a high value on communication and shared decision-making. Please see below for more information.
- 24-bed ICU (closed; reserved for patients requiring intubation and, in some cases, vasopressor support)
- EMR: Epic
Job Responsibilities
Manage step-down patients and higher-acuity floor patients who would be managed in an ICU at many other facilities, given the restrictive ICU admission criteria
Round within a program carrying a program-wide daily census of approximately 285 patients with approximately 40 admissions per 24 hours
On the admitting service: complete admissions within one hour of notification, respond to rapid response events, manage transitions of patients from the ICU to the floor, and respond to medical consult requests for patients under specialty care
Conduct frequent family meetings and maintain regular discussion with patients and families regarding treatment plans and progress
Collaborate closely with consulting specialty services
Respond to rapid response events involving your own patients; critical care manages codes outside the emergency department
On night coverage: cross-cover approximately 280-300 patients, respond to rapid response events, and carry approximately 6-7 admissions per nocturnist
Supervise advanced practice providers
Practice independently across the full scope of inpatient adult medicine, managing an inpatient service without direct oversight
Document all clinical care in Epic
Qualifications
Active California medical license required
ACLS certification required
Epic charting experience required
Working Hours
Day rounding: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Day admitting: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Swing: 1:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Swing: 3:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m.
Night: 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.
