Job description
This role consists of 24-hour in-house shifts covering OBED and emergent obstetric patients. The OB Hospitalist will manage vaginal deliveries and C-sections, care for OBED patients, and treat patients without a primary OB/GYN. There are no GYN responsibilities.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is on call, and while residents are present, the OB Hospitalist will not supervise them. The facility also operates the only maternity transport team in Iowa.

• Provide care for emergent obstetric cases
• Perform vaginal deliveries and C-sections
• Care for unassigned OB patients
• Collaborate with MFM and hospital staff
• Participate in the statewide maternity transport program
• Inpatient coverage only
• 8-bed OBED
• Approximately 1,389 OBED visits annually
• Roughly 463 deliveries per year
• No telehealth
• No APP supervision required
• No GYN coverage
• EMR: Epic
• Imaging, lab, and pharmacy available onsite
Qualifications
• Active Iowa license strongly preferred OR Active IMLC (LOQ required at name clear)
• Must be available to start ASAP
• Clean malpractice and background history required
• NPDB Self-Query (within 30 days) required at presentation
• Provider must not be local to the Des Moines area
Working Hours
• 24-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
• In-house call required
• Physicians may not work more than two 24-hour shifts consecutively
• Call rooms available
• 24-hour in-house shifts
• Locum assignment
• Consecutive shift limitation (no more than two in a row)
