Medical Director opening in Elmira, NY We are a leading hospital in the Elmira area, committed to delivering excellent inpatient care in a collegial, community-oriented setting. Our hospitalist service plays a key role in coordinating inpatient care, improving throughput and outcomes, and collaborating closely with hospital departments, leadership, and frontline staff. The Medical Director of the Hospitalist Service provides leadership for the inpatient hospitalist program, combining active clinical practice with administrative responsibilities. This role is ideal for a physician passionate about inpatient medicine, quality improvement, provider mentorship, and operational excellence. Position Details

  • Oversee hospitalist service operations including staffing models, coverage, scheduling, and service-line metrics (census, productivity, quality, length of stay, readmissions)
  • Budget oversight and operational efficiency management
  • Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols, best practices, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital policy standards (e.g., The Joint Commission)
  • Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and strategic planning initiatives
  • Report performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities
  • Promote physician engagement, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Maintain an active inpatient clinical practice as a hospitalist
  • Clinical schedule: 7:00 AM ‚Äì 7:00 PM or mid-shift 3:00 PM ‚Äì 3:00 AM
  • Average census: 20‚Äì25 patients per day
  • Closed ICU
  • No procedures required
  • Step-down unit coverage
