We are seeking an experienced Locums Hospital Medicine Physician to provide inpatient coverage at a 190-bed, Level III Trauma Center in Dublin, GA. This is a high-acuity hospitalist role in an open ICU model, requiring strong critical care skills and comfort managing complex patients independently.

Position Details

  • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
  • Shift Coverage:
    • Rounder: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
    • Admitter: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
    • Nocturnist: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Coverage Includes: Days, nights, weekends, and on-site call
  • Off-site Call: None
  • Hospital Beds: 190
  • Trauma Level: Level III

Patient Volume

  • Daily Census: Approximately 98–104 patients
  • Critical Care:
    • Up to 8 CCU patients per provider
    • Initial ventilator management required (first 24 hours only)

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient rounding and admissions
  • ICU admissions and critical care rounding
  • Initial ventilator management (vent bundle required)
    • Ongoing vent management deferred to intensivist after first 24 hours
  • Run codes and manage acute decompensations
  • Independently resuscitate critically ill patients prior to specialist arrival
  • Perform and manage critical care drips and interventions, including:
    • Vasopressor titration
    • Antiarrhythmics
    • Nicardipine drips
  • Document and bill critical care time appropriately

Procedures

  • Required:
    • Central lines
    • Initial ventilator management
  • Preferred (not mandatory):
    • Paracentesis
    • Thoracentesis

ICU Support Model

  • Open ICU hospitalist model
  • Intensivist on-site 8 hours daily for ventilator management and support after initial 24-hour period

Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Proven competency with ICU-level patients
  • Comfortable running codes and managing critical care independently
  • Experience with critical care time billing required
