General SummaryProvides medical leadership for the Hospitalist Service, its physicians, staff and patients. Administers and directs the activities of assigned personnel. Provides medical care to patients. Reviews the quality, adequacy and appropriateness of services within the department.Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Provides direct patient care as a member of the Hospitalist team.Provides clinical leadership and overall supervision of all practitioners associated with the team.Provides guidance to Hospitalist program services including policies, staffing, services, marketing, quality assurance monitoring, education and communication.Assists the Practice Manager in an efficient and expeditious operation of the practice, providing input on budgets, billing, equipment, staffing and yearly goals and objectives.Works cooperatively and supportively with Administration and practitioners to ensure services are available, cost effective, and meet quality and regulatory guidelines.Regularly assesses needs of the program to ensure a harmonious working relationship with primary care physicians and department heads within the System. Interacts with Hospitalists and Specialists to ensure appropriate and timely patient care.Promotes/ensures patient satisfaction in all areas of patient care delivery.Reviews, investigates, manages and reports all complaints concerning practitioners arising from patients, medical staff or administration.Intercedes and provides counseling, retraining, direction and discipline to practitioners regarding quality and productivity issues.Performs annual evaluation of clinical skills, and team expectations.Promotes teamwork and participation in development and maintenance of quality improvement programs.Orients new providers and monitors their ongoing compliance with policies and procedures.Coordinates provider scheduling to ensure efficiency and maximum productivity.Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings with practitioners.Serves as Lead Physician and facilitates Executive Committee Meetings and Activities with AdministrationActively participates in the growth of Hospitalist Medicine, and maintains membership and activity in the Society of Hospital Medicine.Attends other Medical Staff meetings, as assigned.Common Expectations:Participates in Medical Staff activities as required and/or as requested.Observes the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Staff.Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovationRequired for All Jobs:Performs other related duties as identified.WellSpan Health has adopted and implemented a compliance program to support WellSpan's values and standards for professionalism, integrity, and ethics.
