LOCUM NOCTURNIST HOSPITALIST – TEXAS PANHANDLE
We are seeking a physician-led, hospital-employed nocturnist for locum coverage at a top regional referral center in the Texas Panhandle. This is an excellent opportunity for physicians seeking flexible scheduling with strong system support and collegial hospitalist teams.
Position Highlights:

Schedule: 7-on / 7-off night shifts

Team: 2 physicians + 1 NP per night

Primary Duties: Overnight admissions, floor and ICU cross-coverage, supervision of NPs
-
ICU: Semi-open model with 24/7 intensivist support; hospitalists may manage selected ICU patients in coordination with critical care

Procedures: Optional—central line and airway skills encouraged but not required; vascular access, anesthesia, and RT support available
-
EMR: Epic with established hospitalist-friendly workflows

Typical Nightly Admissions: 5–6 new patients (range 3–11), allowing time for thoughtful chart review, communication with families, and patient-centered care
Hospital & Operational Overview:

450-bed acute care facility with Level III Trauma, Chest Pain & Primary Stroke Centers

Average daily hospitalist census: 230 patients with ~55 new admits/consults per day

Cross-coverage shared with evening split team for seamless handoffs

Rapid response teams and code coverage led by residents with ICU nursing support

Hospitalists admit for nearly all services except selected surgical subspecialties

Requirements:

Board-certified/board-eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
