The Opportunity

A 156-bed community hospital inside Temple Health, in Northeast Philadelphia, with a closed ICU and a full specialty panel behind you. The census sits around 20 patients a day, procedures aren't part of the job, and when a case outgrows the campus it moves to Temple University Hospital Main rather than becoming your problem to solve alone. It is a community service with academic infrastructure underneath it — which is an unusual combination, and the reason people stay.

What You'll Own

• A census you can actually round on. About 20 patients a day on a non-academic service — no resident hand-offs to chase, no teaching obligations layered on top.
• Medicine, not procedures. No procedures are required in this role. The closed ICU is covered by intensivists.
• RRT and codes, with Temple Health specialty backup on campus and tertiary escalation to Temple University Hospital Main.
• A block schedule that gives back whole weeks. Week on / week off, days, plus roughly 2 nights a month.

Must-Haves

• MD or DO
• Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• Pennsylvania license, or eligibility in process
• Hospitalist experience preferred

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in a closed-ICU model
• Epic familiarity
• Comfort with a high-acuity referral population

What Working Here Is Actually Like

• $250,000–$260,000 base depending on experience, plus a $15,000 quality bonus.
• $10,000 sign-on, half released at signature, and a $3,000 CME allowance.
• Full W-2 benefits. Medical, dental and vision from the first of the month after hire; employer-paid life at 1x salary up to $300,000; employer-paid long-term disability at 60% of salary; 401(k). The benefit plan year runs 1 October to 30 September.
• Malpractice and tail both covered. Tail is the one people forget to ask about until they leave.
• Epic throughout Temple Health.
• Free parking, meals and a physician lounge — small things that providers on site mention constantly.
• Physician-owned and physician-managed since 2012. When you escalate a problem, it reaches a physician who still works clinical shifts.
• Not a locums agency. An ongoing program position with a named, stable team.
• Licensure is faster than you expect if you're coming from out of state. Pennsylvania participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, so if you already hold a qualifying license elsewhere, adding this one typically runs one to three weeks rather than months.

Straight Talk

The block schedule means no PTO accrual — your time off is the week you're not working, which suits some people completely and frustrates others who want to stack leave. Worth being clear-eyed about before you sign. Northeast Philadelphia also puts you closer to Bucks and Montgomery County than to Center City, which is a feature if you want space and a drawback if you want to walk to dinner.
