Bridgeport Hospital, a part of Yale New Haven Health, is seeking a full-time Unit Medical Director Hospitalist (Internal Medicine) to join its inpatient team. This position follows a Monday–Friday schedule and focuses exclusively on patient flow and clinical care. Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Leadership: Serves as the primary physician leader for the assigned inpatient unit, promoting high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Operational Oversight: Collaborates with nursing leadership, case management, and ancillary departments to optimize daily operations and patient flow.
  • Quality and Safety Initiatives: Monitors and drives improvement in metrics such as length of stay, readmissions, throughput, and patient experience.
  • Care Coordination: Facilitates interdisciplinary rounds, ensuring alignment among physicians, APPs, nurses, and consultants.
  • Clinical Practice: Continues to function as a traditional hospitalist, providing direct inpatient care (admissions, rounding, discharge management, and cross-cover).
  • Education and Mentorship: Supports the professional development of colleagues, residents, or APPs through informal coaching and sharing of best practices.
  • Voluntary faculty appointment available through the Yale School of Medicine (YSM).
Education:
  • M.D. or D.O., with completion of an ACGME – accredited Internal Medicine Residency.
  • Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Must secure a Connecticut medical license, Controlled Substance Registration, and DEA certification.
  • Must obtain attending medical staff privileges at respective YNHHS entity.

Experience:
  • At minimum, one (1) year caring for medicine inpatients as an attending physician.

Licensure:
  • Hold a valid Connecticut medical license,
  • Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification
