Locum – OB/GYN Hospitalist

A regional health system in Iowa is seeking Locum OB/GYN Hospitalist physicians to provide weekday and weekend coverage. This opportunity offers flexible scheduling, strong clinical support, and a comprehensive practice environment.

Schedule & Coverage

• Shift Options:

  • 12-hour (8a–8p): $2,996 flat rate

  • 24-hour on call (8a–8a): $5,993 flat rate

• Availability: Must be willing to cover Mon–Fri with some weekends

• Practice Setting: In-hospital OB & GYN coverage, Level III Trauma

• Call Ratio: 1:5 | Schedule available 1–2 months in advance

• ‍ Team: 4 physicians + 1–2 Certified Nurse Midwives

• EMR: Cerner

Clinical Details

• On-call work only (avg. 65–80 deliveries/month)

• Triage and deliver patients, round on admitted patients, and cover ER OB/GYN consults

• Support staff includes L&D, postpartum, OR, and ER

• High-risk pregnancy ~60% / Low-risk ~40%

• Avg. nursery admissions: 2–5 per day

• Resident support often available on call

• Optional circumcisions

Required Procedures

• Obstetrics: Low & high-risk pregnancy management, FHR interpretation, OB ultrasounds, amniocentesis

• Labor & Delivery: Vaginal, forceps, C-section, breech, multiples, VBAC, repair of 3rd/4th degree lacerations

• Gynecology: Open surgical, laparoscopic (diagnostic/minor), operative/major (ectopic, oophorectomy, cystectomy, etc.)

Compensation & Reimbursement

• Rates (Flat, No Overtime):

  • Orientation – TBD

  • 12-hour daily shift: $2,996 flat rate

  • 24-hour on call: $5,993 flat rate

  • Holiday rates available

• Flight, hotel, and rental car covered

Requirements

• Board Certified – Required

• Active Iowa license or IMLC with LOQ – Required

• Fetal Monitoring (AWOHNN) – Required

• Must cover weekdays (Mon–Fri), weekends welcomed

• Facility policy: No two consecutive 24-hr weekday shifts (weekend combos allowed)

• Two professional references (one must be supervisory) – Required
