Job Title: Hospitalist

Location: Michigan

Position Type: Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) with PRN opportunities

Shift: Day shift, 10-hour shifts with potential night call rotations

Schedule: 17 shifts per month

Employment Type: W2 or 1099

Salary: Competitive salary plus bonus potential

Team Structure: Collaborate with 2 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) during the day shift; 1 APP during day and 1 APP during mid-shift

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree

  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

  • Experience in hospital medicine is preferred

EMR: Epic

Hospital Size: 139-bed hospital

ICU: 8 beds, Trauma Level 3, Tele-Critical Care (tele-CC) support available

Census: Approximately 50 patients per day

Specialty Support:

  • 24/7 availability of Cardiology, Urology, Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and Orthopedics

  • ICU coverage with tele-CC support and in-house specialists for critical care cases

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive and compassionate care to hospitalized patients, including those in the ICU

  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure efficient patient care

  • Participate in rounds, consultations, and discharge planning

  • Manage acute medical conditions and oversee patient progress, especially in the ICU

  • Available for night call duties as scheduled

  • Provide care in an ICU setting with 8 beds and support trauma cases at a Level 3 trauma center

  • Work with specialists in cardiology, urology, surgery, trauma, and orthopedics for patient care management

Physical Demands:

This physician/APP role requires stamina in fast-paced healthcare: prolonged standing/walking (8-12 hrs/shift); rapid emergency movement (sprints, crowds); lifting/carrying 25-50 lbs equipment; pushing/pulling 100 lbs (beds/carts) with aid; frequent bending/stooping/kneeling for care; constant reaching/fine motor skills (suturing/IVs); occasional climbing/balancing; tolerating stressors (temps, noise, fluids, hazards) during irregular shifts/on-call/infection risks—accommodations for disabilities; varies by setting (clinic/ER).

Patient Care: Provide high-quality care for hospitalized patients, including those in the ICU, ensuring thorough assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

Rounds & Consultations: Conduct daily rounds with interdisciplinary teams, addressing patient progress, treatment plans, and coordinating with specialists as needed.

Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies and codes, collaborating with other healthcare providers in critical situations, including trauma cases in a Level 3 trauma center.

Patient Management: Oversee the care of acute medical conditions, including continuous monitoring in the ICU and coordination of care in collaboration with Tele-Critical Care (tele-CC) support.

Discharge Planning: Facilitate patient discharge planning, ensuring proper follow-up care, patient education, and timely transitions to outpatient services.

Call Duty: Provide night call support as required, ensuring 24/7 coverage for the hospital's needs.

Collaboration: Work alongside Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), cardiologists, urologists, surgeons, trauma surgeons, and orthopedists to provide comprehensive, coordinated care.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records through Epic EMR, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and healthcare regulations.

Qualifications

Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school

Certification: Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine (IM) or Family Medicine (FM)

Licensure: Active, unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Michigan (or ability to obtain one)

Skills:

Strong clinical skills in hospital medicine, including experience with ICU care

Proficiency in using Epic EMR or similar electronic medical record systems

Ability to manage acute medical conditions and provide critical care

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams

Ability to work independently and make decisions in fast-paced, high-stress environments

Other: Availability for night call as part of the on-call rotation

Working Hours

Shift Type: Day shifts (10 hours)

Schedule: 17 shifts per month

Night Call: 1-3 night call shifts per month, not in-person just phone

Team Support: Work alongside 2 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) during the day shift, with 1 APP on day shift and 1 APP on mid-shift
