Psychiatric Hospitalist Opportunity at Southeast Health – Dothan, Alabama

Southeast Health, a leading non-profit tertiary care center in Alabama, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Psychiatric Hospitalist to join our dynamic, hospital-employed Psychiatry team. This full-time position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to provide comprehensive inpatient psychiatric care in a reputable facility serving a large regional population.

Position Overview:
  • Practice Setting: Full-time Psychiatric Hospitalist at Southeast Health, a 420-bed Level 2 trauma center with extensive specialty services.
  • Schedule: 14 days on, followed by 14 days off; shared call responsibilities with a second psychiatrist during 14-day work periods.
  • Team Structure: Two-team model—each team comprised of two psychiatrists—working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Patient Population: Adult inpatients with specialized programs for Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Geriatrics, Substance Abuse, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and Intensive Psychiatric Care.
  • Facility Highlights: Behavioral Health Unit licensed for 48 beds (current capacity 28 beds), with access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing comprehensive inpatient psychiatric evaluations, stabilization, and treatment planning.
  • Managing medication and non-pharmacologic therapies collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences.
  • Precepting medical students and Internal Medicine residents, fostering educational growth.
  • Collaborating with hospitalists for medical management of psychiatric inpatients when necessary.

Qualifications:
  • MD or DO degree with successful completion of Psychiatry residency.
  • Board certification or eligibility in General Psychiatry.
  • Current Alabama medical license or eligible for licensure.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively within a team.
