Your Role With Us:

Salem Health is seeking a Pediatrician to join our established, hospital-based Pediatric Hospitalist team, in an unscheduled role. The Pediatric Hospitalist team is a critical part of our unit’s culture, overseeing the safety of hospitalized children and newborns, with 3,400 births annually. Salem Health has a Level III NICU staffed 24/7 with Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Neonatologists and easy access to children’s hospital subspecialty support and PICU’s, less than an hour away in Portland.

The Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine team is comprised of six (6) pediatricians who work variable 12 and/or 24-hour shifts to provide continuous coverage. Responsibilities include supporting established practices with care of their inpatients, providing consultation services to the Emergency Department, assuming responsibility for unassigned patients, caring for newborns 35 weeks and greater, and managing hospital transfers, admissions and discharges.

Salem Health Women & Children’s Services Division includes:

  • 10-bed Pediatric Unit which provides inpatient and outpatient services
  • 26-bed Mother Baby Unit
  • 18-bed Labor & Delivery Unit (12 labor and 6 antepartum beds) with two operating rooms
  • 27-bed level IIIA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Background/Expertise:

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • Board Certification in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics or the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics (Applicants who are not Board Certified must obtain board certification within five years from completion of the applicable Residency and/or Fellowship program for the privileges requested at Salem Hospital)
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Oregon
  • Demonstrate experience and current competency, to include the provision of inpatient care for at least 12 pediatric patients in the previous 2 years.
  • Will consider new graduates
  • Demonstrate current competency to include the admission and/or provision of patient care for hospital patients, including ED evaluations/admits, in the previous 2 years.
  • Current unrestricted federal DEA certification
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications
  • Knowledge of Lean methodology a plus
