Overview

The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) is seeking board-certified pediatricians for a full-time position as Division Head of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. The person will join our dynamic and collegial team where the position includes exclusively academic teams for inpatient pediatric care on our general and intermediate level units, newborn nursery, and the pediatric sedation team. Our team is committed to providing evidence based patient and family centered care while teaching medical students, pediatric [Register to View] ), medicine-pediatric, emergency medicine and family medicine residents, and now our new Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) fellows. Academic time is protected and allows focus on research, teaching, curricular development, quality improvement, safety initiatives and simulation-based education and innovation. We collaborate with our medical and surgical subspecialties and serve as the primary admitting service for most medical specialties while providing consulting and co-management roles for our surgical colleagues.

Position Summary
Department of Pediatrics, University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria is seeking a nationally recognized Pediatric Hospitalist with a track record of leadership and experience in building clinical programs for Division Head position. There is an expectation that the new leader will grow the current clinical programs and develop a vision for future expansion. The Division Head will oversee a strong teaching program that currently has two Hospital Medicine fellows per year and supports medical students and resident teaching. The Division has a strong track of research in health informatics, AI and machine learning. The leader will be expected to promote the growth of clinical and translational research with emphasis on institution wide collaboration. The Division Head must exhibit the qualities required to be a successful leader in a complex organization, including working collaboratively across various organizations and effectively promoting the Division with community providers,

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the Division faculty in Hospital Medicine
  • Providing care for hospitalized children in the Children’s Hospital of Illinois
  • Provide consultation and support to other services with regard to assessment and stabilization of patients admitted to Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
  • Provide consultation services for physicians and patients in the region requiring services.
  • Oversee the clinical services provided by PHM for inpatient, sedation and newborn care in addition to collaboration with other programs.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership, unit’s pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and other ancillary services to provide high quality, safe, and individualized patient and family centered care.
  • Sustain an existing supportive and collaborative environment for other subspecialists thus facilitating programs that care for high complexity patients.
  • Support quality improvement efforts and safety initiatives within the Hospital Medicine Division
  • Support undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs of the Department. Work closely with the Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship Program Director to support and strengthen the hospital medicine fellowship program.
  • Direct and conduct his/her own research activities in pediatric hospital medicine.
  • Perform duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development and administration.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • Board certified in Pediatrics and Hospital Medicine
  • Minimum of 6 years of Pediatric Hospitalist experience
