Baltimore

Unique hospitalist locums at the large tertiary care center in Baltimore, MD.

Ridiculously low patient load, EPIC, Closed ICU, ALL specialties on site, competitive pay.

REQUIREMENTS (please read carefully):

MUST: the facility is looking for candidates with experience working in a large tertiary care center either during or after residency (as opposed to community/rural hospitals).
Board Certified in Internal Medicine (required)
Will prefer candidates with active MD license or IMLC, but may consider candidates needing to obtain MD license (will cover the costs and assist with obtaining the license).
Start date: as soon as licensed/credentialed (required)
No malpractice history or background issues (required)
Will consider recent residency graduates with the relevant experience at the tertiary care facility as long as they're board certified in Internal Medicine.

Anticipate 10-14 shifts a month
ICU closed
No procedures
All specialties on site
Locums hospitalists will not supervise any residents. You may work alongside them on the swing or nocturnal shifts if a resident is moonlighting.
EMR: EPIC
Current need is 6-12 months
Credentialing: on average 1-2 months

SHIFTS:

The shifts vary in length between 7-14 hours and facility would consider coverage for any of the below shifts:

#1 - Day admitter (8 am – 4 pm) and Evening Admitter Shift (3 pm – 11pm):

There is 1 daytime admitter on every weekday and weekend day and 1 Evening Admitter Shift on every weekday. The Admitter is responsible for:

  • Admitting 4 patients

  • Sign out to the respective Swing shift provider when the above is complete.

  • There are no cross-cover duties (subject to change).

#2 - Swing shift (3 – 10 pm):

  • There are 3 Swing Shifts on every weekday and weekend day: they typically split up responsibilities.

  • The swing shift provider is responsible for: Admitting 4 patients: the Swing provider should complete admissions (i.e. see the patient, write orders and a note) that are
    pending or posted for admission up to 830 PM if you have not admitted to your cap (4 patients).

  • Sign out to the respective Swing shift provider when the above is complete.

  • You are expected to assist with triage of other patients (which may include chart review, acceptance and placing skeleton orders) until 15 minutes prior to the end of your shift.

  • Pending admissions may then be handed off to the nocturnists.

  • Cross coverage duties: cross cover from 20-38 patients and potentially provide coverage of General

  • Medicine Consult service and transfer request line.

#3 - Night Shift (9:30 pm – 8:30 am):

There are 3 night hospitalists, typically at least 1 is covered by a faculty hospitalist.

The nocturnist is responsible for:

  • Admitting up to 4 admissions (with the goal of filling all empty beds that remain within the Division of Hospital Medicine)

  • Accepting signout from swing providers and evening admitter and providing coverage until the following morning.

  • Sign out overnight events and the new admissions to the daytime hospitalists in the morning.

  • One of the nocturnists will be designated to cross cover

  • The nocturnist should complete admissions (i.e. see the patient, write orders and a note) that
    are pending or posted for admission up to one hour prior to the end of the shift if you have not
    admitted to your cap (4 patients)

  • You are expected to assist with triage of other patients (which may include chartreview, acceptance and placing skeleton orders) until 15 minutes prior to the end of your shift. Pending admissions may then be handed off to the daytime providers.


NOTE:
You can combine Day admitter and Swing shift to create 14 hour shift paying whopping $2940 (!!!).


PAY RATES:

  • Day, Swing and Evening admitter: $210/hr all inclusive

  • Night shift: $220/hr all inclusive

NOTE: this job is very attractive given a robust support and low patient volume, so we’re NOT able to negotiate a higher pay rate. The rates were set by the facility and will NOT change. Please apply only if you're comfortable with the listed rates.

Travel expenses are included in the rate.

We will provide $1M/3M malpractice insurance and a tail.
