Primary Purpose

Responsible for providing direct and/or indirect health care services to assigned patient population.

Minimum Specifications

  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an approved college of Medicine/Osteopathy.
  • Must be PGY-2 in at least the second half of your second year, PGY-3, excluding residents on their pulmonary/critical care rotation (example: CUH MICU, Parkland MICU, VA CPICU, Parkland CCU, CUH ACS/CHF), or higher in good standing with University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center’s Internal Medicine Residency Training Program.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:

  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
  • Military Training Network

Must have one of the following within 14 days of placement in job:

  • Must be currently licensed for the practice of medicine in the State of Texas or
  • Hold a Physician in Training Permit by the Texas Medical Board

Responsibilities

  • As assigned, provides high quality management of patient care. Performs first call support during the evening and night shifts. This can include but is not limited to assisting with RAT calls, performing bedside assessments, medication orders and reconciliations, admissions to the Hospitalist Service, including physical exams, history, assessment, diagnosis, planning and performing special treatments.
  • Records health history, findings, treatment, and recommendations accurately, clearly, and thorough, consistent, and prompt manner during each shift, and designates each note to be attested by the supervising faculty physician.

  • Trainees must be supervised by faculty and is not to exceed the level of clinical activity and responsibility of the Trainees in his/her training program. Trainees may not function as independent practitioners.
  • Trainees’ hours must be documented in MedHub and must comply with the written policies of the ACGME 80-hour work week, and the program regarding duty hours.
  • Second Job must not interfere with the ability of the Trainees to achieve the goals and objectives of the primary educational program.
  • Maintains a knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines, that impact the assigned area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

Job Accountabilities

  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
