Job description

The Opportunity

A critical-illness recovery hospital in northern New Jersey. The census sits around 32 — patients who survived an ICU and now need weeks, not days, to come back. Every specialty is present during the day; nights are quiet. It is a genuinely different rhythm from acute hospitalist work: you follow the same patients long enough to see whether what you chose actually worked.

What You'll Own

  • A census of roughly 32 on a 7-on / 7-off day rotation.
  • Long-arc critical illness recovery. Ventilator weaning, complex wounds, prolonged sepsis recovery — problems measured in weeks.
  • Procedures. Intubation and procedural competence are required here, unlike our community hospitalist lines.
  • A full daytime specialty panel, with quiet nights and 24-hour nursing and respiratory care.

Must-Haves

  • MD or DO
  • Ability to intubate and perform procedures
  • Pennsylvania license, or eligibility in process

Nice to Have

  • Critical care or pulmonary background
  • LTACH or long-term ventilator weaning experience
  • Epic familiarity

What Working Here Is Actually Like

  • $300,000 base plus a $25,000 productivity bonus.
  • Full W-2 benefits. Medical, dental and vision from the first of the month after hire; employer-paid life at 1x salary up to $300,000; employer-paid long-term disability at 60% of salary; 401(k). The benefit plan year runs 1 October to 30 September.
  • Malpractice and tail both covered. Tail is the one people forget to ask about until they leave.
  • Epic.
  • 7-on / 7-off days. Half the year off, no night rotation.
  • Daily physician rounds with PT, OT and speech integrated — a real multidisciplinary service, not a holding unit.
  • Physician-owned and physician-managed since 2012. When you escalate a problem, it reaches a physician who still works clinical shifts.
  • Not a locums agency. An ongoing program position with a named, stable team.
  • Licensure is faster than you expect if you're coming from out of state. Pennsylvania participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, so if you already hold a qualifying license elsewhere, adding this one typically runs one to three weeks rather than months.

Straight Talk

This is a procedural job. If you've built a hospitalist career specifically to get away from intubating people, this isn't your role — several of our other sites require no procedures at all. It's also a population that doesn't always recover, and you'll be the one having those conversations with families over weeks.

About Inhospital Physicians (IHP): IHP is a physician-owned and physician-managed group, headquartered in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania and operating since 2012, running Emergency Medicine, Hospitalist, Intensivist and post-acute programs for acute-care hospitals, LTACHs and health systems across multiple states. IHP is not a locums agency; these are ongoing program positions with stable, named teams.
