We are currently seeking a highly skilled Locum Physician to provide expert care across inpatient, outpatient, and home-based hospice services in Traverse City, Michigan. Position Overview:
As a Locum Physician specializing in Palliative Medicine, you will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care across multiple settings. You will oversee inpatient consults, outpatient clinics, and hospice services, ensuring seamless integration of services and high-quality comfort care. The work schedule follows a 24-hour, 7-on, 7-off shift pattern, providing a balanced work-life structure. Key responsibilities include managing inpatient consults with a census of 12-18 patients, responding promptly to calls and pages during designated hours, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional palliative care.

Required Skills:
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • Valid medical license in Michigan or the ability to obtain one promptly
  • Board certification or eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • Proven experience in inpatient and outpatient palliative care settings
  • Strong communication, clinical judgment, and patient management skills
  • Proficiency with EMR systems, preferably Cerner
  • Ability to handle urgent and complex cases with compassion and professionalism

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with home-based hospice care services
  • Prior work in a rural or community hospital environment
  • Bilingual abilities (English and Spanish or other languages)
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary team coordination

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Completion of a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience in palliative or hospice medicine
  • Previous locum or temporary staffing experience is a plus

Other Requirements:
  • Availability for intermittent dates throughout the year
  • Participation in the 24-hour shift schedule starting on Tuesday at 8 AM through the following Tuesday at 8 AM
  • Travel and licensure reimbursement where applicable
