JOB SPECIFICS

OSF HealthCare is hiring a compassionate, board-certified, or board-eligible Hospice and Palliative Care Physician to join our interdisciplinary team, which includes three physicians, eleven advanced practice nurses, and three social workers.

The role encompasses providing inpatient consultation services, a significant educational component, requires competence in symptom management, and effective goals of care conversations. Top candidates for this role will demonstrate a commitment to practicing high-quality and cost-effective care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide inpatient consultation services in hospice and palliative care settings, ensuring patients receive holistic care.
  • Work in parallel and collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team of advanced practice nurses and social workers to deliver coordinated patient care.
  • Have symptom management competencies, customizing interventions to meet individual patients with advanced illnesses.
  • Facilitate goals of care conversations with patients and their families, navigating complex decision-making processes with empathy and clarity.
  • Engage in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows to promote excellence in hospice and palliative care.
  • Practice and advocate for high-quality and cost-effective care, aiming to optimize resource utilization while striving for the best patient outcomes.
  • Participate in weekend call coverage approximately once every two months.
  • Preferred: Fellowship experience in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Potential opportunity to extend the outreach and impact of the program to Transitional Care Hospital.
  • Adult palliative care physicians have opportunities to collaborate with our pediatric palliative care.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Physician Licensed to practice medicine in current state.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Obtain and maintain medical staff membership and appropriate privileges.
  • Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
  • Physician shall meet all qualifications to participate in OSF's programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Illinois to prescribe narcotics, if applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • Interest in teaching Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellows, as well as Residents and other learners who interact with and rotate in Palliative Medicine
  • Specialized training or interest in pain management, or other subspecialties within Hospice and Palliative Medicine, would be a big plus.
  • Experience with and/or openness to working as a collaborating Physician with a robust and highly specialized group of Advance Practice Providers
  • A commitment to high-quality and cost-effective care, aiming to optimize resource utilization while striving for the best patient outcomes.
