Malignant/Benign Hematologist Opportunity
Grand Rapids: MI
Full-Time

About the Practice and their Mission

Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan (CHCWM) is seeking a board certified/board eligible hematologist to join our growing Malignant and Benign Hematology service line.

CHCWM is an independent, physician-owned oncology practice that has served the West Michigan community and surrounding areas for over 40 years. The practice is dedicated to help, healing, and hope for cancer patients and their families. Based on a sub-specialized approach, patients treated at CHCWM sites have access to not only state-of-the-art treatments but to phase I, II, and III research trials--all delivered in a compassionate and caring environment. Sub-specialized practices at four main sites are supported by robust inpatient services at two hospitals, a benign hematology program with inpatient consult service, inpatient oncology consult service, malignant hematology service, same day clinic, survivorship program, behavioral psychology, medical social work, outpatient specialty pharmacy services and centralized laboratory structure.

Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan is a proud partner of OneOncology. OneOncology is a national partnership of leading independent community oncology practices working together to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer with a physician-led, data-driven, technology-powered, and patient-centric model. Through OneOncology, partner practices share technology platforms that foster communication, data sharing, and clinical excellence across the network. OneOncology’s non-exclusive clinical trial site management subsidiary, OneR, delivers complex, multi-center clinical trials to affiliated practices.

About the Role

Principal responsibilities for this position include the evaluation and management of patients with hematologic malignancies and/or benign hematologic conditions in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. The physician will participate in a robust weekly multidisciplinary tumor board bringing together consultants from hematopathology, transplant, radiology, cancer genetics, research, and malignant hematology services to review complex cases and to coordinate multidisciplinary care between the teams. Attendings take turns rotating one week at a time on a large inpatient service supported by 24-hour APP coverage across two hospitals. CHCWM prioritizes clinical research to improve the care of all cancer patients and is proud to offer both phase I and phase II-III trial opportunities specific to this patient population. CHCWM is also well-poised to enter the era of value-based care, having been one of the top performers in the national CMMS Oncology Care Model. Active physician participation on practice committees and involvement in developing new practice initiatives is highly encouraged. The candidate must be board certified/board eligible.

Why choose Grand Rapids, MI?

Located in western Michigan, Grand Rapids is the second largest city in Michigan. Approximately 45 minutes from the heart of the city lies the west Michigan coastline which offers beautiful sand beaches, coastal dunes, and crystal-clear waters in the summer. In the winter, skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing are easily accessible only a short drive north. In addition to numerous museums, the city also has its own symphony orchestra, as well as regular opera and theater offerings. Grand Rapids is also home to three minor league teams for the MLB, NHL, and NBA. Known as "Beer City" there is a growing craft beer industry in town, paired with many restaurants offering varying cuisines and farm-to-table ingredients. And for any still missing big-city life, Chicago is a 3.5-hour drive and Detroit is only two hours away.

The Grand Rapids metropolitan area boasts a population of slightly over one million. Supporting this are two robust regional hospital systems, as well as several smaller independent hospital facilities, the Michigan State University medical school and the Van Andel Research Institute. There is an excellent education system ranging from preschool to high school with public, private, and charter schooling options available. The area is also home to several colleges and universities, including Grand Valley State University, Hope College, and Calvin University.
