Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU SOM) in Springfield, Illinois is seeking an experienced, academic Hematology/Oncologist to serve at the Associate Professor. Reporting to the Chief of Hematology/Oncology, this is an exciting opportunity to join dedicated clinicians and educators who are committed to teaching the next generation. The incumbent will also serve as the Director of Infusion Services.

The Department of Internal Medicine and Division of Hematology/Oncology play an important role in the mission of the School of Medicine which is to assist the people of central and southern Illinois in meeting their health care needs through education, patient care, research and service to the community. Founded in 1970, SIU has received national and international recognition for innovation in medical education and offers a welcoming environment for dedicated clinicians who love to teach. Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital, both 450-bed community hospitals, are teaching sites for SIU SOM. In May 2015, Memorial Medical Center opened the new Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, expanding SIU’s vision to be a national leader for excellence in healthcare learning and innovation through skills training and simulation labs.

The Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at SIU opened July 2010, spans 63,000 square feet, and serves the people of central and southern Illinois and throughout the world to address their present and future cancer care needs through a comprehensive approach of education, research and patient services. Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and certified by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) through the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The SCI practices a team approach to multidisciplinary cancer treatment with surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, genetic counselors, therapists, nurses and medical staff meeting together to decide the best treatment plan.

Highlights of the position and area include:
As the Medical Director of the Infusion Unit, participate in administrative duties as assigned by the Division Chief.
Develop and maintain an oncology practice which includes inpatient and outpatient consultations.
Provide clinical and didactic teaching to students, residents and other healthcare professionals.
Serve as Principle Investigator for NCI clinical trial activities.

Qualifications: Must be board certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology. Academic record consistent with appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or Professor rank. Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Illinois. Demonstrated administrative and leadership skills. Excellent skills in interpersonal relationships, collaboration, and exceptional communication skills are essential.
