Responsible for all functions which fall under the scope of care of Radiation Oncology Service (ROS). These include clinical and administrative management, either directly or through delegated authority of the following: Initial Patient evaluation Patient simulation, radiation treatment plan and prescription Patient management during treatment Follow up care post treatment Provide on-call coverage Research initiatives Resident supervision/education Required knowledge Base : 3D External Planning Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) Computerized treatment planning systems (TPS) CT scan planning Electronic portal imaging device (EPID) On Board Imaging (OBI) Electron treatment Additional valuable knowledge base: Knowledge of Varian/Eclipse TPS Knowledge of RapidArc TPS Experience in IMRT treatment of head and neck malignancies Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) Superficial treatment Total Body Irradiation Brachytherapy Other key duties and responsibilities : Serves on a variety of medical center planning committees, advisory groups and chartered action teams. Oversees clinical and administrative performance measures. Assists with service line strategic planning, budget and resource management. Assist with developing formal, systematic improvement plans for quality measures, access and medical services delivery. Supports liaison with affiliated schools regarding medical teaching issues and provider appointments. Oversees the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements using programs data-driven quality assurance processes. Assures radiation oncology program is compliant with applicable Federal and State laws. Oversees the management of Veteran complaints and issues. Contributes to the development of program goals and objectives to meet VHA Radiation Oncology Care requirements. Participates in performance appraisals of staff, and addresses disciplinary issues. Participates in clinical teaching. Assists in overseeing appropriate training related to radiation oncology issues is completed for all Atlanta VAMC staff involved in patient care activities. Contributes to the development of Radiation Oncology Clinic and Radiology Service policies and procedures consistent with VA Directives, as well as VA required accreditation by the Joint Commission, CARF and other ACR/ACRO/NHPP accrediting organizations. Serves on facility Professional Standards Board (PSB) as needed. Supervises the hiring of professional and technical staff. Directly supervises both clinical and administrative personnel.
