Lead the next chapter of cancer research and innovation across Northeast Wisconsin

Froedtert ThedaCare is seeking an accomplished, academically minded Hematology/Oncology, Oncology, or Radiation Oncology physician leader to serve as Medical Director, Cancer Research & Clinical Innovation for ThedaCare Cancer Center and the Froedtert ThedaCare North Region.

This is a unique opportunity for a physician who wants to do more than participate in clinical research. You will help shape the strategy, growth, infrastructure and culture of a regional cancer research program while continuing meaningful clinical practice.

Working across ThedaCare, Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Cancer Center, this leader will help expand access to clinical trials and innovative therapies, strengthen investigator development, advance research operations and build meaningful academic partnerships.

  • Mentor physicians and investigators and help develop the next generation of clinical research leaders.
  • Identify opportunities to expand access to innovative therapies and clinical trials for patients throughout Northeast Wisconsin.
  • Establish systems, processes, and partnerships that support sustainable research growth.
  • Represent the North Region in enterprise, academic, and national research forums.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, research professionals, operational leaders and academic partners to advance cancer care.
  • Maintain a meaningful clinical practice aligned with your areas of expertise and professional interests.

What You Will Lead

The Medical Director will provide strategic leadership across key areas including:

Clinical Research

  • Develop and prioritize a balanced clinical research portfolio.
  • Expand clinical trial availability and patient participation.
  • Improve trial accrual and research performance.
  • Identify opportunities for investigator-initiated, cooperative group and industry-sponsored research.

Physician & Investigator Development

  • Mentor physicians interested in clinical research.
  • Support investigator development and scholarly activity.
  • Build a culture that encourages curiosity, collaboration and innovation.
  • Create opportunities for physicians to engage with academic partners.

Academic Partnership

  • Strengthen collaboration with the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center.
  • Develop pathways for academic collaboration, education and translational research.
  • Connect community-based cancer care with academic expertise and resources.

Strategic Leadership

  • Help establish the long-term research strategy for the North Region.
  • Partner with operational and physician leaders to align research priorities with patient and community needs.
  • Develop sustainable infrastructure for continued growth.
  • Represent Froedtert ThedaCare in regional and national research forums.

Qualifications

*MD or DO with board certification in Hematology, Oncology, and/or Radiation Oncology.
*Current or eligible Wisconsin medical licensure.
*Administrative or leadership experience with demonstrated success in program development, strategic implementation, and physician mentorship.
*Strong knowledge of clinical research processes and procedures, including active involvement with cooperative clinical trial groups.
*Prior service as a Principal Investigator or Site Principal Investigator, with sustained participation in cooperative group and/or industry-sponsored trials.
*Demonstrated ability to prioritize a research portfolio, optimize accrual, and uphold rigorous regulatory and operational standards.
*Excellent communication, consensus-building, analytical, and relationship-development skills.
Recognized clinical expertise and a documented record of clinical and/or academic contribution*.
