Job Description – Hematology/Oncology Physician (Locum, Chambersburg/Waynesboro, PA)
• Provide comprehensive adult hematology and oncology care in both clinic and inpatient settings 🩺
• Manage an average of 15 patients per day, including new consults and follow-up treatment visits 👥
• Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for cancers (lung, breast, prostate, colorectal) and selected hematologic conditions
• Administer and oversee infusions, immunotherapy, IVIG, IV iron, and other injections 💉
• Coordinate care with infusion nurses, radiation oncology navigators, and multidisciplinary teams 🤝
• Participate in tumor board meetings and support clinical decision-making 🧬
• Respond to on-call responsibilities, including weekend and night coverage, approximately 1 week per month 📞
• Document all patient encounters accurately using EMR systems
• Collaborate with other providers to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care
• Support outpatient clinic workflow while providing guidance and consultation for inpatient and emergency cases
• Contribute to a team-based, academic-focused, and patient-oriented practice environment ✨
Job Responsibilities
• Conduct comprehensive adult patient evaluations, including new consults and follow-up visits 🩺
• Diagnose and manage a variety of cancers (lung, breast, prostate, colorectal) and selected hematologic conditions
• Develop individualized treatment plans, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, IVIG, IV iron, and other injections 💉
• Coordinate patient care with infusion nurses, radiation oncology navigators, and multidisciplinary teams 🤝
• Participate in tumor board meetings and contribute to clinical decision-making 🧬
• Provide inpatient and emergency consultation support as needed, including on-call coverage (weekends and nights) 📞
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters using EMR systems
• Supervise and support other providers as needed within the clinic and hospital settings
• Maintain adherence to clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements ✅
• Promote a collaborative, patient-centered, and academically oriented practice environment ✨
Qualifications
• Board Certified in Hematology and/or Oncology (double-boarded preferred) ✅
• Willingness to obtain Pennsylvania medical license (IMLC considered) 📍
• Experience managing adult patients in outpatient and inpatient oncology/hematology settings
• Proficient in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and infusion protocols 💉
• Strong clinical decision-making, diagnostic, and patient management skills 🩺
• Excellent communication and collaborative team skills 🤝
• Ability to participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary discussions 🧬
• Flexible and adaptable to a full-time locum schedule with on-call responsibilities
Working Hours
• On-Call: 1 week per month, including nights and weekends 🌙📞
• Typical Day: Clinic visits with 20–60 minute consults, inpatient/ER consultation support as needed
• Patient Load: Average 15 adult patients per day 👥
• Flexibility to manage urgent patient needs during clinic hours 🔄
