Hematology & Oncology Locums Opportunity | Inpatient + Clinic Mix | Des Moines, IA

We’re seeking an experienced Hematologist Oncologist for a locums opportunity in Des Moines, Iowa, offering a balanced mix of clinic, inpatient coverage, telehealth, and limited outreach. This role provides excellent clinical support, modern facilities, and competitive pay rates, along with comprehensive malpractice coverage and complimentary travel and lodging.

Schedule Overview

• Clinic Coverage: 4–5 days per week

• Clinic Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

• Patient Contact Hours: 6 per day

• Clinic Days per Month: 8

• On Call: Yes (schedule to be confirmed)

• Procedures/OR: None

Practice Details

• Setting: Inpatient and outpatient Hematology/Oncology

• Inpatient Coverage: Yes, across two hospital sites in Des Moines

• Outreach: Potential coverage in Newton, IA (~6 days per month)

• Telehealth: Yes

• Daily Clinic Volume: 10–30 patients

• Average Inpatient Census: 10–15

• Appointment Times:

  • New consults: 40 minutes

  • Follow-ups: 20 minutes

• Nursing Support: 1:1

• APP Supervision: Not required

• EMR: Epic

• Imaging, Lab & Pharmacy: Onsite

Scope of Services

• New patient evaluations and treatment planning

• Ongoing chemotherapy management

• Adjustments to treatment plans

• Referrals for ancillary services

• Pain and symptom management

• End-of-life and palliative care coordination

(Radiation and surgical oncology services are provided by established partner teams.)

Compensation & Coverage

• Pay: Competitive rates (discussed upon interest)

Submission Requirements

• Board Certified or Truly Board Eligible in Hematology & Oncology

• Fellowship trained in Hematology & Oncology

• Active Iowa license or active IMLC

• Proven experience in Hematology/Oncology

• Willingness to cover both hospital sites in Des Moines

• Clean malpractice and background history

• NPDB Self-Query (dated within 30 days of submission)
