Join Our Team as a Locum Physician – Hematology Oncology in Richmond, VA

Bon Secours Cancer Institute at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, VA, is seeking a highly skilled Locum Physician to provide expert care in both inpatient and outpatient oncology settings. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient lives while supporting our dynamic healthcare team.

In this position, you will oversee patient care involving adult populations, manage a Nurse Practitioner, and engage in enrolling patients in cutting-edge research studies. Your expertise will help ensure seamless clinical operations during the coverage period, contributing to our mission of delivering exceptional cancer treatment. The role involves call coverage and provides a chance to work primarily in inpatient settings with occasional outpatient responsibilities, with a focus on adult oncology and hematology patients.

Required Skills:
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification in Hematology and Oncology.
  • Valid medical license to practice in Virginia.
  • Proven experience in adult inpatient and outpatient oncology care.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising Nurse Practitioners.
  • Competence in enrolling patients in clinical research trials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience working in a research-focused oncology practice.
  • Prior experience in hospital-based inpatient oncology care.
  • Familiarity with VA healthcare systems and policies.
  • Additional certifications in oncology or research methodologies.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Hematology and Oncology.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-residency or post-fellowship clinical experience in oncology.
  • Prior experience in a locum or temporary clinical role is advantageous.

Other Requirements:
  • Coverage dates from January 19 through January 30, 2026.
  • Ability and willingness to handle call duties.
  • Must adhere to all applicable licensure, certification, and compliance requirements.
  • Travel and licensure reimbursements available when applicable.
