Join Our Team as a Locum Hematology-Oncology Physician in Tacoma, WA

Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Locum Hematology-Oncology Physician to provide high-quality care at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma and St. Anthony’s Clinic in Gig Harbor. This 6-month assignment offers a unique opportunity to contribute to patient care in a dynamic hospital and outpatient setting, bridging the gap until a permanent hire is secured. The position involves a full-time schedule, primarily dayshift hours, with rotating weekend calls, enabling a balanced workload while making a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.

Required Skills:
  • Board certification in Hematology and Oncology
  • Valid medical license to practice in Washington State
  • Proven experience in managing hematology and oncology cases
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Familiarity with Epic EMR system

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with bone marrow aspirations (optional)
  • Prior work in hospital outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Ability to handle a volume of 16-20 patients daily
  • Flexibility for rotating weekend call duties
  • Comfort with outpatient procedures and follow-up care

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in Hematology and Oncology
  • Previous locum or temporary shift experience preferred but not mandatory

Other Requirements:
  • Coverage begins as soon as possible, with credentialing completing within 60-90 days
  • Availability for a 6-month commitment with the possibility of extension
  • Must be willing to work nights optionally, although current focus is on day shifts
  • No specific BMT/BMB procedures mandatory
  • Travel and lodging arrangements are flexible and negotiated as needed
  • Compensation details: Hourly pay rate to be confirmed; rate caps and ancillary pay are outlined, including orientation, holiday, on-call, and callback rates
