Job Description

Last Update: 4/11/24

Jefferson includes Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, a dynamic university and health system with broad reach across the Delaware Valley. Jefferson is the second largest employer in Philadelphia and the largest health system in Philadelphia based on total licensed beds.

Through the merger of Thomas Jefferson University and Philadelphia University in 2017, our University includes ten colleges and four schools. We are an NCAA Division II university and an R2 national doctoral university offering undergraduate and graduate-level programs that provide students with a forward-thinking education in architecture, business, design, engineering, fashion and textiles, health, medicine and social science.

Jefferson Health, the clinical arm of Thomas Jefferson University, has grown from a three-hospital academic health center in 2015, to an 18-hospital health system through mergers and combinations that include hospitals at Abington Health, Aria Health, Kennedy Health, Magee Rehabilitation and Einstein Healthcare Network. We have over 50 outpatient and urgent care centers; ten Magnet®-designated hospitals (recognized by the ANCC for nursing excellence); the NCI-designated Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center (one of only 70 in the country and one of only two in the region); and one of the largest faculty-based telehealth networks in the country. In 2021, Jefferson Health became the sole owner of HealthPartners Plan, a not-for-profit health maintenance organization in Southeastern Pennsylvania. We are the first health system regionally to create an aligned payer-provider partnership.

Jefferson’s mission, vision and values create an organization that attracts the best and the brightest students, faculty, staff, and healthcare professionals, as well as the most visionary leaders to drive exceptional results.

  • OUR MISSION: We improve lives.
  • OUR VISION: Reimagining health, education and discovery to create unparalleled value
  • OUR VALUES: Put People First, Be Bold & Think Differently and Do the Right Thing

As an employer, Jefferson maintains a commitment to provide equal access to employment. Jefferson values diversity and encourages applications from women, members of minority groups, LGBTQ individuals, disabled individuals, and veterans.

BC/BE Medical Oncologist/Hematologist wanted to join our academic group of 8 physicians, 6 fellows and 1 nurse practitioner located in North Philadelphia with satellite sites in Northeast Philadelphia and Montgomery County. We are part of a large teaching hospital, with resident and fellowship training programs and three dedicated cancer centers. Our practice provides treatment and consultation for more than 2,000 newly diagnosed oncology patients yearly. Our mission is to provide excellent patient care, conduct relevant clinical research, foster continuing education and bring evidence-based treatment to the communities that we serve.

Individual patient care is coordinated through our multidisciplinary disease-specific programs. We also provide general hematology services for inpatients and outpatients. In 2010 we were selected to participate in the National Cancer Institute’s Community Cancer Centers Program, one of only 30 such programs in the country. Hundreds of classical hematology cases are seen annually on the inpatient and outpatient services. There is a wide range of complexity of diagnoses that is intellectually stimulating and allow for interactions with other specialties and hematopathology. Ample opportunity to educate residents, students, and fellows regarding the various classical hematologic conditions.

In 2016 our practice was selected by CMS to participate in the Oncology Care Model, designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of evidence-based oncology care delivery. Our patients are seen in modern facilities where they receive care from certified oncology nurses and receive pastoral, psychosocial, nutritional support, financial counseling and navigation services.

Our oncology programs have been continuously certified by the American College of Surgeons, our radiation oncology program by the American College of Radiology, and our breast cancer program by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Cancers.

Our clinical research programs include those sponsored by NRG, ECOG and industry. We have been members of the Jefferson Cancer Network since its inception and received JCN clinical trials awards. In 2009 and 2013 our practice received the ASCO clinical trials participation award. Our Hematology / Oncology fellowship program is fully accredited by the ACGME. Many of our physicians have consistently received Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Doc awards across all cancer services.

We seek an energetic, motivated individual with strong clinical skills who seeks to join a program with great potential for continued growth.
