Job description

Physician – Internal Medicine, Geneticist (Medical Genetics)

Remote / Virtual — Serving VA Genomic Medicine Service patients (priority market: Florida) | Full-Time or Part-Time FTE | M–F, business hours local to assigned VA facility; no on-call/off-hours coverage

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Medical Geneticist to deliver 100% virtual outpatient genetic evaluation and consultation services to Veterans through VA's Genomic Medicine Service, administered via the Salt Lake City VAMC hub under the VA's Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP). This is a dedicated telemedicine role — no in-person or on-call coverage — supporting a national Veteran patient population across VA's genomic care program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled outpatient televideo (VVC) genetic consultations across a broad range of indications — cancer, preconception, and general genetics — in adult patients.
  • Maintain a minimum of 12 new patient consultations and an average of 11–12 follow-up visits per 40-hour work week (or equivalent).
  • Evaluate patients by video, including physical examination as clinically necessary; order appropriate genetic testing and facilitate completion of orders.
  • Monitor and track genetic test result status; communicate results directly to patients and referring providers within 7 days of availability (or sooner if clinically indicated).
  • Document all patient encounters in the VA electronic health record within 24 hours of the clinical encounter.
  • Coordinate with each Veteran's other treating providers regarding genetic testing, follow-up, and ongoing management.
  • Maintain board certification, meet CME requirements, and practice within scope of privileges at all times.
  • Complete VA credentialing, privileging, and mandatory training requirements, and comply with VA telework and security protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state where the Veteran patient resides; multistate licensure strongly preferred (expands eligible patient assignment and FTE allocation).
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Clinical Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent.
  • Able to obtain VA PIV credentialing/security clearance (application submitted week 1; 2–3 weeks typical adjudication).
  • Comfortable with EHR documentation, televideo platforms, and standard Windows-based computer systems.
  • Prior experience delivering care via telehealth/virtual care strongly preferred.

Compensation

Bill Rate: $200–$210/hour, depending on experience and certifications

This is a 100% remote position — no per diem or travel allowance applies.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit a current resume/CV, proof of ABMGG board certification or eligibility, active state medical license(s), and three (3) professional references. As this position supports a VA Medical Center program, a signed Letter of Intent (LOI) is required as part of submission.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. Accommodations are available upon request at any stage of the hiring process.
