GASTROENTEROLOGIST
Boise, ID (Boise VA Medical Center) | Full Time | Standard clinic hours Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, plus rotating on-call coverage
Position Overview
We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Gastroenterologist to provide on-site physician services at the Boise VA Medical Center under the Department of Veterans Affairs Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP). This is a contract physician position delivering the full range of gastroenterology clinical and procedural care to VA beneficiaries in Boise, Idaho, meeting or exceeding the standards of the American College of Gastroenterology and American College of Physicians – Internal Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient gastroenterology consultative, clinic, and procedural care at the Boise VA Medical Center
- Perform the full range of colonoscopy and Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) procedures, including biopsy, ablation, and polyp/tumor/lesion removal by hot forceps and snare technique
- Provide consultative services at the patient's bedside for non-ambulatory patients and in the outpatient clinic for ambulatory patients; complete scheduled procedures within 30 days of the consult
- Participate in the on-call rotation (weeknight, weekend, and holiday, generally 1-in-4), carrying the VA-provided phone/pager, responding by phone within 15 minutes, and reporting in person within 60 minutes when medically indicated
- Document all care in the VA electronic health record in accordance with VHA standards; complete QA/QI documentation for all procedures, complications, and outcomes
- Provide discharge education and coordinate follow-up care for gastroenterology clinical and surgical patients
- Attend staff meetings as required by the facility Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee
- Support the education and supervision of Health Professions Trainees rotating through the Gastroenterology Service, as applicable
Qualifications & Experience
- Board Certified OR Board Eligible in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) — Board Certified and Board Eligible are equally acceptable
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
- Current BLS and ACLS certification, or other facility-accepted equivalent
- Current DEA registration
- National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- Demonstrated recent, relevant clinical experience in the core gastroenterology procedures required by this role
- Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently, and to meet all VA credentialing, privileging, occupational health, and security/access requirements prior to providing patient care
Compensation
$434–$490/hour, depending on experience and certifications. On-call standby coverage is compensated separately under a distinct on-call rate structure and will be detailed in the offer.
