Schedule & Clinical Responsibilities:
- Inpatient call coverage.
- EMR: Epic
- Evaluate and manage inpatient GI consultations.
- See approximately 4–6 patients during call.
- Approximately 4–6 admissions may be required.
- Scheduled colonoscopy procedures during weekday coverage.
- Follow up on patients requiring additional GI services.
- Call response is required.
- Typical call ratio: 4–6 patients per 24 hours.
- Estimated callback percentage: 10–15%.
Procedures & Skills:
Experience with the following is required/preferred based on assignment needs:
- Upper GI endoscopy
- Colonoscopy, including biopsy and polyp excision
- ERCP, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
- Esophageal dilation
- PEG procedures
- Sigmoidoscopy
- Foreign body removal
- Control of GI bleeding
- Variceal injection
- Liver biopsy
- Sengstaken/Blakemore tube management
Requirements:
- MD/DO with fellowship training in Gastroenterology.
- Board Certified in Gastroenterology required.
- Active Texas medical license required.
- ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and ABLS certifications required.
- Ability to obtain temporary privileges if needed.
- Credentialing timeframe: approximately 30–60 days.
Practice Setting:
- Inpatient
- Trauma Level I
- Stroke-certified hospital
- Approximately 7 beds in the GI department
- 1–2 RNs supporting coverage
- No APP supervision required
- No resident/teaching supervision required
