ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a locum Gastroenterologist to provide weekend call coverage due to a temporary staffing gap. The provider will manage adult gastroenterology cases in both hospital and clinic settings, performing a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The role requires experience with advanced procedures, including ERCP, and working within the Epic EMR system.

Coverage Dates: March 20–23

Coverage Type: Weekend hospital call (Saturday–Sunday)

Call Structure: 24-hour call (flat rate including callback hours)

Credentialing Timeframe: Approximately 90 days

Estimated Procedure Volume: ~8 procedures per weekend

Practice Setting: Hospital call with outpatient clinic involvement

Job Details / Responsibilities
-
Provide weekend call coverage for gastroenterology services.
-
Diagnose and treat adult patients with gastrointestinal and hepatology conditions.

Perform a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including:
-
Esophageal dilation and manometry
-
Esophageal manometry interpretation
-
Small bowel biopsy
-
Lower GI endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy
-
Colonoscopy
-
Liver biopsy
-
Sengstaken/Blakemore tube insertion and management
-
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
-
Upper GI endoscopy with procedures such as:
-
Biopsy
-
Foreign body removal
-
Bleeding control (cautery/laser)
-
Variceal injection or banding
-
PEG placement
-
ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic)

Coordinate with consulting services including Gastrointestinal Surgery, Hepatology, and Internal Medicine.

Utilize onsite lab and imaging services to support patient evaluation and treatment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education & Certification

Board Certified in Gastroenterology
Licensure
-
Active Virginia medical license
Procedural Expertise
-
Must be able to perform ERCP (ERCP certification required)

Proficiency in advanced GI endoscopic procedures
Compliance & Health Requirements

Flu vaccination required

COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred
Additional Requirements

Clean malpractice and background history

NPDB self-query report dated within 30 days of presentation

Must be available for the listed coverage dates to be considered.
