Job description
A leading health system in southeastern New Jersey is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief of Gastroenterology to build and lead a high-impact academic GI division. This leadership role blends clinical excellence, research, and education while shaping the future of gastroenterology services across multiple counties.
The Chief will play a pivotal role in program development, academic growth, multidisciplinary collaboration, and expansion of advanced GI services. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity designed for an experienced gastroenterologist with prior leadership or program-building experience.
Job Responsibilities
• Develop an academic GI division focused on research, innovation, and education
• Expand advanced GI services including complex endoscopic procedures
• Oversee inpatient and outpatient GI operations
• Recruit, mentor, and lead GI hospitalists, faculty, fellows, and support staff
• Serve as a clinical leader managing complex GI cases
• Collaborate across specialties, particularly oncology and cancer services
• Ensure appropriate endoscopic block scheduling and referral optimization
• Promote workforce development and physician mentorship
• Improve access to care and address healthcare disparities in the community
Qualifications
• Active and unrestricted New Jersey medical license (or willing to obtain prior to start)
• Valid BLS and ACLS certifications (or willing to obtain)
• DEA and CSR/CDS certifications (or willing to obtain)
• Most recent NPDB Self-Query (within 30 days) required
• Malpractice history disclosure required (history considered with limitations)
• Proof of COVID and Flu vaccination compliance required
• Experienced gastroenterologists only (No new graduates)
• Prior leadership experience as Chief, Medical Director, or experience launching a program preferred
• Not open to APPs
• Not open to 1099, locums, or visa sponsorship candidates
