We are seeking a Board-Certified Gastroenterology Physician for a locum tenens weekend on-call opportunity in Midlothian, Virginia. This position focuses on hospital-based gastroenterology coverage, supporting inpatient consults, urgent procedures, and endoscopic services during weekend call rotations.
The role is ideal for experienced GI physicians looking for high-acuity procedural exposure, predictable weekend scheduling, and a well-supported hospital environment. Coverage includes adult inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services with on-site diagnostic resources and EPIC EMR.
Job Responsibilities
• Respond to inpatient GI consults and urgent gastroenterology needs
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
• Conduct upper and lower GI endoscopy procedures
• Manage GI bleeding, liver disease, and complex GI cases
• Perform ERCP procedures as required
• Interpret esophageal manometry studies
• Perform colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, and small bowel biopsies
• Conduct liver biopsies and manage PEG tube placements
• Collaborate with surgery, hepatology, internal medicine, and hospitalist teams
• Document all care accurately in the electronic medical record
Qualifications
• Active Virginia medical license
• Proven experience in inpatient gastroenterology coverage
• ERCP procedural experience required
• Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) experience preferred
• Clean malpractice history
• NPDB self-query within required timeframe
• Ability to commit to scheduled weekend call coverage
Working Hours
• 24-hour on-call shifts
• Coverage typically begins Friday evening and ends Monday morning
