We are seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Gastroenterologist for an inpatient locum-to-perm gastroenterology opportunity in Des Moines, Iowa. This hospital-based role is ideal for GI physicians interested in transitioning into a permanent position while providing comprehensive inpatient GI coverage.
The position focuses on adult-only gastroenterology care, combining inpatient consults with procedural responsibilities. ERCP experience is required, while EUS is highly preferred but not mandatory. The practice offers a steady procedural volume, strong clinical support, and a structured call schedule in a well-established inpatient setting.
Job Responsibilities
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
• Conduct ERCP procedures (EUS preferred)
• Manage GI bleeding, abdominal pain, liver disease, and acute GI conditions
• Perform inpatient and limited outpatient procedures
• Average 3–4 procedures per day in addition to consults
• Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, and surgical teams
• Document patient encounters using Cerner EMR
• Participate in 24-hour beeper call coverage
Qualifications
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship
• Active Iowa medical license or eligibility via IMLC
• Active ACLS certification
• ERCP experience required
• EUS experience highly preferred
• Willingness to work inpatient gastroenterology coverage
• Clean malpractice and professional background
• Interest in locum-to-permanent employment required
Working Hours
• Inpatient hospital-based coverage
• Ongoing assignment with locum-to-perm intent
• Weekday and weekend coverage as scheduled
