Position Type: Locum | Physician – Gastroenterology

Overview

We are seeking a Board Certified Gastroenterologist for locum hospital call coverage due to a lack of ongoing coverage. This opportunity includes a mix of inpatient hospital call and outpatient GI responsibilities, with procedural volume and EPIC EMR support.

Practice Highlights

  • Hospital-based call coverage with outpatient GI and internal medicine responsibilities

  • Adult patient population

  • Lab and X-ray services available onsite

  • No trauma designation

  • EMR: EPIC

  • Average of 8 GI procedures per week across GI, hepatology, surgery, colonoscopy, EGD, and ERCP cases

Candidate Requirements

  • Board Certified in Gastroenterology – Required

  • Active Virginia medical license – Required

  • ERCP experience – Required

  • EUS experience – Preferred

  • Flu shot – Required

  • COVID vaccine – Highly Preferred

  • Must be available to cover at least one open shift to be considered

  • Clean malpractice history required for temporary privileges

  • NPDB Self-Query (dated within 30 days) required at presentation

  • Providers must carry $2.6M malpractice coverage (per Virginia state cap requirements)

Schedule & Coverage

  • 24-hour call coverage (7a–7a)

  • STAT need: 2/23–2/27 (Monday 7a to Friday 7a)

  • Additional open dates include weekday and weekend blocks throughout the year:

    • 4/3–4/6

    • 5/1–5/4

    • 5/4–5/8

    • 6/29–7/3

    • 7/31–8/3

    • 8/17–8/21

    • 9/7–9/11

    • 9/11–9/14

    • 10/12–10/16

    • 10/16–10/19

    • 10/19–10/23

    • 12/21–12/25

    • 12/25–12/28

    • 12/28–1/1

    • 1/1–1/4

Required Procedures

  • Upper and lower GI endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic)

  • Colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy

  • ERCP (required)

  • Endoscopic ultrasound (preferred)

  • Esophageal dilation and manometry (performance and interpretation)

  • Small bowel biopsy and liver biopsy

  • Management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tube

  • PEG placement and management

  • Variceal banding, injection, and bleeding control

Credentialing

  • Estimated credentialing timeframe: 90 days
