Locum Gastroenterologist
Seeking a board-certified Gastroenterologist to provide weekend locum call coverage due to gaps in clinical staffing. This role includes hospital call, outpatient GI responsibilities, and a robust procedural mix. Providers should be comfortable managing adult patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings using Epic EMR.
Dates / Schedule
Weekend Call Coverage (Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM)

February: 6–9, 13–16, 20–23, 27–March 2

March: 13–16, 20–23, 27–30

April: 3–6, 10–13, 24–27

May: 8–11, 15–18, 22–26 (ends Tuesday 7 AM), 29–June 1

June: 5–8, 19–22
Additional Details:

Average ~8 GI procedures per weekend
-
Credentialing timeframe: ~90 days

Travel reimbursement available (lodging capped at ~$150/night; economy travel)
Job Details / Responsibilities

Provide adult gastroenterology care across hospital and clinic settings
-
Manage weekend hospital call coverage
-
Perform a full range of GI diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including:

Upper GI endoscopy (biopsy, foreign body removal, cautery, variceal injection/banding, PEG, ERCP)

Colonoscopy
-
Sigmoidoscopy
-
Lower GI endoscopy
-
Small bowel biopsy
-
Liver biopsy
-
Esophageal dilation and manometry
-
Esophageal manometry interpretation
-
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS preferred)

Sengstaken/Blakemore tube insertion/management

Use on-site lab and X-ray

No trauma designation

EMR: Epic
Required Skills & Qualifications
-
Board Certified in Gastroenterology

Active Virginia medical license
-
ERCP proficiency required

EUS experience preferred
-
Must be available for listed weekend dates

Clean malpractice history required for temporary privileges

Flu vaccination required; COVID vaccination highly preferred

Ability to provide both inpatient and outpatient GI care
