Locum Gastroenterology Physician Needed in Massachusetts!

ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a Gastroenterology Physician to provide primarily inpatient coverage, including consults and endoscopic procedures. This locum assignment supports the department during a retirement transition and will involve a 1:4 call rotation with comprehensive hospital-based GI care. Outpatient responsibilities are not expected at this time.

Dates / Schedule

• Start Date: Mid-December 2025

• Duration: Until permanent physician is hired (ongoing)

• Schedule/Call:

  • Inpatient call approx. 1:4

  • Call shift: Friday 4 p.m.–Friday 4 p.m.

  • Overnight beeper coverage

  • 1 week per month

• Estimated Credentialing: Mid–late December 2025

Job Details & Responsibilities

• Setting: Primarily inpatient (Floor/ED/ICU)

• Provide emergent GI consults and perform endoscopies as needed

• Patient mix: Adult

• Hospital census: 4–12 patients per day

• Procedures required:

  • Esophageal dilatation/manometry and interpretation

  • Small bowel biopsy

  • Lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy

  • Liver biopsy

  • Upper GI endoscopy: diagnostic & therapeutic; with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeders, injection/banding of varices, PEG placement

• Clinical areas: Hospital-based gastroenterology including endoscopy

• No outpatient gastroenterology or internal medicine required

• Additional resources: Onsite lab and X-ray

• EMR: EPIC

• Group size: 4 physicians

• EUS/ERCP: Not required (ERCP nice-to-have)

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology (BC preferred)

• Active Massachusetts medical license

• BLS certification

• Strong competence in the full scope of inpatient GI procedures listed above

• ERCP certification preferred but not required
