ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a Gastroenterologist with ERCP capability to provide inpatient-only coverage, including rounding, ER consults, and procedures derived from those consults. There is no outpatient work. This is a full-time locums need due to the departure of their permanent GI physician.

Job Details / Responsibilities

• Setting: Inpatient only

• Primary Duties:

  • Rounding on up to 10 patients per day

  • Performing GI procedures including endoscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP

  • Handling ER consults

  • Procedures generated from inpatient/ER consult volume

• Required Procedures: Standard GI procedures + ERCP required

• Types of Cases:

  • Abdominal pain

  • GI bleeds

  • SBO

  • Food bolus

  • Ulceration, gastritis

  • Diagnostic evaluation for suspected carcinoma (no treatment)

• Admissions: Handled by hospitalists (not the GI locum)

• Sedation: Anesthesia backup available; conscious sedation preferred

• EMR: Paragon (transitioning to EPIC later in 2026)

• Support Staff: Endoscopy-trained GI nursing staff

• Reason for Need: Permanent GI leaving

• Deal Breakers: Excessive malpractice history; medical board discipline

Credentialing

• Timeframe: 30–60 days

• Emergency Credentialing: Possible for clean malpractice history (not expected to be needed for Jan start)

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Board Certification in Gastroenterology: Highly preferred; Board Eligible accepted

• Texas Medical License: Required

• Gastroenterology Residency/Fellowship: Required

• ERCP Capability: Required

• Certifications: ACLS required

• Malpractice: Clean history highly preferred

• Availability: Must specify number of weeks/month available at name clear
