Position Overview
Our partner in Tennessee is seeking a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist to provide inpatient-only coverage through its Tennessee Float Pool, alternating 1 week coverage blocks between two hospitals.
This ongoing 2026 locum schedule provides 31 total weeks of 24-hour call coverage across both hospitals, offering a consistent and high-paying engagement throughout the year.
This position ranks in the Top 8% of Gastroenterology locum tenens pay nationally (2025 data) and offers an estimated total provider income of approximately $900,000 for all confirmed coverage weeks through 2026.
Assignment Highlights

Schedule: 24-hour call, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. next day

Rotation: Alternating one-week coverage at each facility (per schedule)

Type: Inpatient only (no clinic)

Average Census: 5–8 inpatients per day

Average Procedures: 3–5 per day (ERCP, EGD, colonoscopy, GI bleed management)

Support Staff: Endo suite nurses, anesthesia, and OR staff

EMR: Epic (required – facility does not train)

Credentialing Timeline: 90 days (expedited for clean files)

Travel: Airfare, hotel, rental car, or mileage reimbursed

HPA Healthcare: Joint Commission–certified agency
Skills & Experience

Board Certification: Gastroenterology (required)

Licensure: Tennessee license or IMLC accepted (facility will license if needed)

Certifications: BLS and ACLS (required)

Procedural Skills: ERCP (required)

DEA: Active Tennessee DEA (required)

Experience: Inpatient GI call coverage and advanced procedural skill

EMR: Epic (required)

Vaccines: Vaccine exemptions accepted with proper documentation

Preferred: 3+ years post-fellowship hospital-based GI experience
Job Responsibilities

Provide 24-hour inpatient GI call coverage and perform emergency procedures.

Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, foreign body removal).

Manage cases including GI bleeds, obstructions, and liver dysfunction.

Round daily on inpatients and respond to hospital consults in critical order.

Collaborate with hospitalist, surgery, and anesthesia teams.

Complete accurate documentation in Epic EMR.
