Job description
We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Gastroenterologist to provide locum tenens coverage at a Massachusetts medical center beginning in mid-December 2025. This opportunity arises due to a retirement and will continue until a permanent placement is made. The provider will manage a variety of inpatient gastroenterology cases, perform endoscopic procedures as needed, and share a 1:4 call schedule.
Youโll be supported by a team of four physicians, an on-site lab, and imaging facilities. Outpatient responsibilities are not required at this time.
Job Responsibilities
Perform emergent endoscopies and related procedures as needed.
Carry a beeper overnight during on-call periods.
Manage an average of 4โ12 hospital-based patients per day.
Document all patient encounters using EPIC EMR.
Perform required endoscopic and GI procedures, including:
Esophageal dilatation/manometry and interpretation
Small bowel and liver biopsies
Lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy
Upper GI endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic)
PEG placement, variceal banding/injection, foreign body removal, and cautery
EUS/ERCP experience is not required but is a plus.
Qualifications
Active Massachusetts Medical License โ Required
BLS Certification โ Required
ERCP Certification โ Nice to have, not required
Strong inpatient gastroenterology and endoscopy experience
Working Hours
Call Structure: 1:4 rotation
Estimated Credentialing Timeframe: Mid to late December 2025
Emergency/Temp Privileges: Not available
Skills
Skilled in managing complex inpatient gastroenterology cases
Excellent clinical judgment and communication skills
Comfortable working independently in a hospital-based setting
Familiar with EPIC EMR
