Position Overview

An established healthcare organization in Massachusetts is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Gastroenterology Physician for inpatient locum tenens coverage. The provider will manage floor, ED, ICU, and emergent GI consults, including endoscopic procedures, during a one-week call rotation. This role supports ongoing coverage during a retirement transition and will remain active until a permanent provider is secured.

Assignment Details

• Profession / Specialty: Physician – Gastroenterology

• Location: Springfield, MA

• Start Date: Mid-December 2025

• Duration: Ongoing until permanent hire

• Schedule: Friday 4:00 PM – Friday 4:00 PM (1-week call rotation)

• Call Ratio: Approximately 1:4

• Setting: Inpatient only

• Average Census: 4–12 patients per day

• Lab & Imaging: Onsite lab and X-ray available

• EMR: EPIC

• Privileges: No temporary or emergency privileges

Compensation

• Hourly Rate: $316/hour

• Overtime Rate: $446/hour

• Night Call Rate: $451/hour

• Weekend Call Rate: $2,376 flat

• Travel & Lodging: Fully covered

Required Procedures

• Esophageal Dilatation & Manometry

• Small Bowel Biopsy

• Sigmoidoscopy / Colonoscopy

• Liver Biopsy

• Upper GI Endoscopy (diagnostic & therapeutic):

  • With biopsy, cautery, PEG, banding/injection of varices, and foreign-body removal

EUS/ERCP not required

Requirements

• Board Certified or Eligible in Gastroenterology (BC preferred)

• Active Massachusetts License – Required

• BLS (AHA) – Required

• ERCP Certification – Optional (Nice to Have)

• Inpatient Experience – Preferred

• No outpatient clinic duties
