The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, Jackson, MS is seeking a full-time Physician - (GI Section Chief), board certified or board eligible, to join our expanding clinical practice. We are fully committed to providing top quality medical care by serving and honoring America’s Veterans.

Candidate must possess MD/DO from an accredited institution, have completed residency training to board certification, and possess an active, current, unrestricted license in any U.S. State or territory.

Additional requirements:

  • Administrative oversight of the Gastroenterology Section under Specialty Care to include, but not limited to, strategic planning and performance improvement, creating monthly daytime and after hours call schedules.
  • The incumbent will also supervise trainees/fellows who are rotating on the GI service to include inpatient consults, consult review, outpatient clinics, and procedures. Incumbent will support GI advanced practice providers. Other duties may be assigned by the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care, Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care, or designee
  • Clinical duties may include completing inpatient and outpatient consults, review/disposition of clinical and care in the community consults, GI clinics to potentially include telehealth clinics, and performing all general GI endoscopic procedures and EUS/ERCP if trained/proficient in these advanced procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Likely starting base salary range: $300,000.00 - $375,000.00

50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Qualifications

Board certification/eligibility in Gastroenterology is required. Board certification/eligibility in Internal Medicine preferred.

A minimum of 5 years of GI practice experience and at least 2 years of supervisory/leadership experience preferred. Proficiency in EUS, ERCP, and in reviewing and interpreting capsule endoscopies preferred.

Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

Ability to manage clinical and administrative responsibilities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or

Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Working Hours

Daily schedule: 80 hours total per two week pay period (Monday through Friday) and approximately 5 weeknights of call per month.
