Description

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Managed Care is currently seeking a Correctional Unit Medical Director for correctional units in Ft. Stockton, Texas. If candidate does not live in the area, you may be able to cover unit though telehealth with weekly or bi-monthly onsite visits to the units.

Background

TTUHSC Managed Care has a partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to provide all medical healthcare, behavioral healthcare, dental, vision, and pharmacy services to incarcerated offenders in the Northern and Western Regions of the State of Texas. There are two correctional units in Ft. Stockton, TX.
The Fort Stockton Transfer Facility (N5) is a small facility in Pecos County. The facility primarily houses inmates who are of transient nature and our housed for short periods of time before they are transferred to a different facility. This facility can house up to 606 low custody male inmates.

The James Lynaugh Unit is a mixed custody prison located in Ft. Stockton, Texas. The facility houses up to 1,416 male minimum to medium custody offenders. Offenders incarcerated at the Lynaugh Unit are provided medical, dental, and mental health services.

Job Summary

Provides advanced professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients. Coordinates the delivery of clinical health care within a TDCJ Correctional institution, insuring that the appropriate health care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion regardless of segregation status. Renders medical judgement regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit according to TTUHSC COrrectional Health Services Policies and Procedures, TDCJ Policies and Procedures, and National Commission of Correctional Health Care Standards. Works under general direction of the Regional Medical Director with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgement. Receives general supervision from the Regional Medical Director. Supervises physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Work is performed in a correctional institution with contact with inmates. Deadlines, interruptions, meetings, and travel necessary. Additionally, work requires collaboration with the faculty and staff of TTUHSC.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold a current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Must hold current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate.
